Online Marketing for B2B Websites: Channels, Measurement, and a Starter Plan

Webマーケティングとは?手法一覧・始め方・成功のポイントを解説

Online marketing uses websites and online touchpoints to support discovery, evaluation, inquiry, purchase, and retention. Start with a customer problem, business outcome, journey, and measurement definition rather than a long list of tactics. This guide covers execution; use the marketing fundamentals guide for customer and value strategy.

Define the work and its boundaries

Search, advertising, social media, and email create touchpoints. Pages and forms support the next action. Sales follow-up, wins, and retention may happen elsewhere but remain part of the business outcome. “Web,” “internet,” and “online” marketing are often overlapping terms; BDC's glossary uses them in this context. Agree responsibilities rather than debating labels.

Select channels by the problem

The table is a planning framework, not a promise of results. Channels overlap: content can support SEO, email, and events, so they should not be counted as unrelated workstreams.

Clear information, usability tests, measurement

Production and testing; sufficient observation volume

Successful actions, valid inquiries, accepted opportunities

Search advertising cannot create unlimited demand for a rarely searched product. More inquiries are also unhelpful without response capacity. Review search advertising preparation and SEO fundamentals before selecting a channel. Organic work still consumes labor and production resources; zero media spend does not mean zero cost.

Prepare the journey and measurement first

Map touchpoint → landing page → call to action → form → success → sales acceptance → win. Identify what customers need at each step and why they might stop. Reading a resource, sending an inquiry, starting a trial, and buying are distinct outcomes.

Separate viewing a button, attempting a submission, and a confirmed successful submission. Test validation errors, failed sends, reloads, duplicates, test hosts, and domain transitions. When using GTM for tag management, verify the destination and values rather than stopping at “the tag fired.”

Analytics cannot precisely observe every person's activity. Consent, browser restrictions, blockers, and device changes can produce missing or differently identified data. GA4 behavioral modeling has eligibility conditions; modeled and directly observed information should not be treated as identical certainty.

Follow Google's guidance against sending personally identifiable information to Analytics. Avoid putting email addresses into URLs or event values. Customer records and web analytics have different purposes and access requirements.

Work backward through a hypothetical funnel

Suppose 2,000 relevant landing-page entry sessions produce a 2.5% inquiry rate, defined here as successful inquiry count divided by those sessions. That yields 50 inquiries. At a hypothetical 20% sales acceptance rate, it yields ten accepted opportunities. These are educational assumptions, not benchmarks or Xtrategy results.

2,000

Do not replace the denominator with all website pageviews or unrelated traffic. Inquiry count divided by sessions also differs from the percentage of sessions containing at least one key event when a session can contain multiple inquiries.

The bottleneck determines the work: insufficient relevant visits, failed submissions, and low sales acceptance require different interventions. Add win rate and contract value only with a suitable, mature cohort. Show counts alongside volatile small-sample percentages.

Use the first 30 days to establish a working process

This illustrative plan tests measurement, execution, and decision criteria. It is not a promise of business results within a month; adjust for production and approval needs.

Produce information customers can use, not content added merely to reach a word count. Google's helpful-content guidance emphasizes useful, trustworthy work. E-E-A-T is not a single score or a ranking guarantee.

Review costs and business outcomes

Weekly reviews catch serving, publishing, measurement, and response problems. Monthly reviews compare relevant entries, successful inquiries, accepted opportunities, wins, costs, and pending records. A better percentage can coexist with fewer outcomes or less profit.

Document evidence, changes, owners, observation periods, and stopping conditions. Record seasonal, pricing, and sales-team changes rather than attributing every difference to online activity. Include production, operating, and external costs in the annual budget and monthly actuals.

For organizing multiple initiatives, owners, progress, and costs, explore Xtrategy's project, portfolio, and monthly budget-versus-actual management. This use does not assume automatic advertising integration or guaranteed profitability.
